World Down Syndrome Day

Monday 21 March 2016 marks the 11th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day.

Cath Regan

One of the tests I had whilst pregnant some years ago, showed that our baby was probably going to be born with Down Syndrome. After receiving the results I was advised there and then to have a termination.

I went to the library and read EVERYTHING I could find. My husband and I spoke to our other children and we all agreed as a family that termination was something which was definitely NOT an option and no 'professional' would tell me otherwise.

I put the whole issue out of my mind, excitedly preparing for my daughter's birth, until the moment she was born and placed in my arms. No condition she had or didn't have could have stopped the love we felt for her.

She doesn't have Down Syndrome as it happens, but she feels very close to the anniversary today. I do wonder though how many beautiful children (with or without Down Syndrome) would be here today if their mother had not been as strong and gone 'against the system'.

The newspaper is very well presented with news pages telling residents of tide times, road works in the area and pharmacy opening times. Leisure and the latest news of World Book Day at Pine Pixies Pre-School on page three. Other items include council news,a pet page, photography page and schools information.

Also covered is history and motoring, letters page, church news and 'What's On' in Formby, ending with Junior Sports.

I believe the next issue is out in two weeks. I for one, wish Kim and her team all the very best in their new venture. It is something Formby has missed for a long time. I will certainly be looking out for the next issue.

Brookdale work started

Work started at the Brookdale Resource Centre

Work has finally begun today at the Brookdale Resource Centre to upgrade the car park area.

Diggers arrived at approximately 8am. Work is expected to take up to one week to complete, hopefully sooner.

We are still waiting for the promised road signage, hopefully this is on the way to completion very soon.

Here is a link to a short video on the day.

Update of child immunisation data recording

by

Cath Regan

I recently reported my concerns on my GP not being given the immunisation information on my child since 2005. A meeting was held on 22nd February by various health bodies, discussing the concerns raised by myself.

The outcome of this meeting was that all child immunisation information backdated from 2011 to present day is now going to be sent over to GPs.  All the October 2015 flu immunisation information will also be sent in this way. There will now be a weekly coded electronic record being sent across from the Liverpool Community Health to all GPs, to keep their patient records fully updated. I believe this has already begun.

Liverpool Community Health (LCH) and the NHS Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are working together to ensure good practice continues in this area.

NB. I am informed that the CCGs concerned are South Sefton CCG and Southport and Formby CCG in this instance.

LCH will contact the CCG in order to discuss the management of historical data from 2011 onwards.

A representative from the NHS said that I had identified gaps in the recording of data.

As a parent I am very pleased with this outcome and believe there is now a more robust system in place, not to mention the dealing of backdated information to ensure the safe recording for patients.

The statement below is from the Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust, who I would like to thank for their cooperation in this matter.

"All immunisation history is recorded, held safely and accurately by Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust (LCH) and that if parents require access to this that are very welcome to contact the Child Health Information Service on 0151 295 3575  to request this information.

It is best practice that this information  is also  documented at the GP  practice. LCH have established improved systems of undertaking this and a weekly report will be going electronically to GP practices to inform them of this information.

LCH will discuss with the CCG and Sefton practices regarding the management of  historical data in order to ensure that GP practices are in possession of all immunisation information since the establishment of LCH as an organisation in 2011. "
